Steven L. Smith Bass guitar/Background vocals
Steven represents the foundation of THE PLATINUMSMITH SONGWRITERS from several perspectives. First of all, he is the proud father of the other two band members; Solomon and Andrew. Secondly, he shares that he received a vision about the band. He confesses that it has been solely the Grace of God that has allowed him to overcome failure and tragedy in order to pursue the vision he received long before Solomon and Andrew were conceived. Thirdly, except for the song “I Wanna Dance With You” which he co-wrote with Solomon, Steven is the author of every song on the bands first project; “UNIVERSAL LOVE”.
As a self described “old school relic”, Steven embraces the good and bad of his era, that includes the GREAT MUSIC as well as racial discrimination. He recalls how no minorities passed the “Tone Test” that was required to be in the 7th grade band. At the age of 25, Steven received his first piano lesson and began writing songs soon thereafter.. He believes his strengths as a songwriter are in lyrics and melodies.
For Inspiration, Steven has looked to Stevie Wonder, Lionel Ritchie, Marvin Gaye, Donny Hathaway, and Deitrick Haddon. For every one who has ever received a vision, Steven shares this scripture; “Write the vision, and make it plain upon tables that he may run that readeth it. For the vision is yet for an appointed time, but at the end it shall speak and not lie: Though it tarry, wait for it; because it will surely come. It will not tarry”. (Habakkuk 2:2-3 KJV)
